the mommy makeover

eACH woMAn’S BodY will react
differently to a pregnancy, but very often
a significant sacrifice has been made
when having children, one you may see
every time you look in a mirror. no
matter how relentlessly you may work
out or how long you eat well, you just
can’t seem to tighten up a softened belly
or raise sagging breasts back to pre-baby
conditions. that’s where a “mommy
makeover” can help.
in fact, of all the procedures that
fall in the area of traditional cosmetic
surgery, the areas of the body covered
by a mommy makeover top the list. the
ASAPS statistics for 2007 have listed
the top five requested procedures, in
order: liposuction, breast augmentation,
blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery),
abdominoplasty (stomach surgery), and
breast reduction.
the mommy makeover concept
is one of the latest to involve two or
more individual procedures done in
conjunction, in order to maximize
results in less time. First, body
sculpting, then a focus on the breasts.
“An abdominoplasty is done to improve
wall contour,” describes dr. Vu. “Breast
augmentation and/or breast lift surgery
can be done to re-contour the breasts to
a more youthful position.”
For remaining areas that just need a
bit of tightening, liposuction is also an
option. what was once a fairly violent
procedure has been made much less
traumatic by recent technology. in
his book, Breast Augmentation and Body
Contouring (Addicus Books, 2006),
tracy-based cosmetic surgeon thomas
Mcnemar, Md, FACS, describes
tumescent liposuction, the act of
injecting fluid to facilitate fat removal, as
well as ultrasound-Assisted liposuction
(uAl), which uses ultrasonic vibrations
to loosen and emulsify fat and make it
easier to remove.
Anyone considering such a procedure
should wait at least six months after
delivery, finish breast feeding, and
maintain good overall health; also, you
definitely shouldn’t plan on having any
more children. otherwise, why bother?
