Sweet music is lingering throughout Stockton’s hallowed halls of higher learning. Whether it be a musical
theater piece on stage, smooth jazz taught at University of the Pacific’s Brubeck institute, or a chorus of the
university’s finest voices joined together in one goosebump-inducing, beautiful chord, both San Joaquin Delta
College and University of the Pacific have calendars full of live music events that welcome a public audience.
Delta College’s music department performers consist of larger ensembles—a Concert Choir, Symphonic
and Concert Bands, and three “big band” jazz bands—and smaller Percussion, String, Brass, and Woodwind
ensembles, and the Delta Singers, all more intimate, specialized performing groups.
University of the Pacific’s performance lineup includes over one hundred twenty performances each year
at the Faye Spanos Concert Hall. a few of the must-see performing groups include the University Symphony
Orchestra, the Pacific Jazz ensemble, and the University Choruses.
The University of the Pacific also has a special academic music program called the Brubeck institute, in
which five to six of the top musicians from around the U.S. and Canada participate in the Brubeck institute Jazz
Quintet. These young (all straight out of high school) jazz aficionados perform at impressive venues like the
Library Of Congress and the monterey Jazz Festival.

famed opera Madama Butterfly, and we can’t
wait to see what next year’s season holds. The
opera guild plans a few not-to-be-missed galas
